Rocky View High School Rodeo

The 4 day event being held Apr 19 - 22 at the Nutrien Western Event Centre at Stampede Park will be a 2 part event package.
The first section of the event will feature Alberta's JUNIOR HIGH rodeo athletes competing on April 19 and 20 competing in the main rodeo events you've all heard of such as Barrel Racing, Tie Down Roping, Bull (Steers actually because the riders are so young) Riding, etc.. and then events you may not have heard of such as Ribbon Roping, Chute dogging and the BAC (Build a Cowboy) Saddle Bronc and Bareback Program which are events designed to give the young cowboys and cowgirls and introduction to the mainstream rodeo events.
The second section will feature Alberta's SENIOR HIGH rodeo athletes and they will compete Apr 21 - 22 in all the main rodeo events. The Senior High portion is as real as it gets in all the events including the Bull Riding! These young athletes are fierce competitors some of whom are already competing within the ranks of the CPRA (Canadian Professional Rodeo Association). Competing At the rodeo last year, for example, there were 4 of our Bull Riding contestants in the Top 10 standings of the BRC (Bull Riders Canada) and there were 2 CFR (Canadian Finals Rodeo) qualifiers, 1 in the Bull Riding and 1 in the Barrel Racing.
All of the contestants remain in good standing at school and each contestant must bring a signed waiver form from their schools principal stating such. Contestants mainly compete for points to earn the right to compete at the Provincial Finals in Ponoka and then the top Provincial Finalist will go on to represent Alberta in the National High School Rodeo Finals held this year in Rock Springs, WY
The Rocky View High School Rodeo is in its 2nd year at the Nutrien Western Event Centre and we are Calgary's largest multi event rodeo with over 300 contestants from all over Alberta. In addition to The Wild 95.3, Joining this year to show support and cheer on the kids will be 2019 Miss Rodeo Canada Jaden Holle, The Calgary Stampede Queen and Princesses, The Calgary Stampede First Nations Princess, Various dignitaries of The Calgary Stampede and of course the parents of the contestants many of which are the "Who's who" of the Canadian Professional Rodeo scene past and present
In closing I'd like to say that Chestermere Agricultural Society presents the Rocky View High School Rodeo at the The Calgary Stampede not only to give the young cowboys and cowgirls that taste of what it is like to compete at the worlds most famous rodeo venue but also to bring the Alberta High School Rodeo's provincial body together for a weekend fun and for the kids to interact with each other, make new friends and walk away with memories that will last a lifetime!
